Megan Somogyi
Partner
Megan Somogyi is a partner of BRB Law LLP. Megan’s practice focuses on California-regulated energy, water, and transportation utilities and the markets in which they operate. Megan represents a broad range of clients, including electric, water, and natural gas utilities; Community Choice Aggregators; crude oil pipelines; vessel and ground transportation providers; developers; financial institutions; commercial and industrial landlords; agricultural property owners; and cities, counties, and other government entities. Megan’s work covers the full scope of administrative and regulatory matters, from routine compliance to litigation and appellate review.
Megan has extensive experience representing clients before the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) in utility rate cases, utility certification and service expansion proceedings, transfer of control applications, sale and encumbrance of utility property, market design and procurement rulemakings, financing applications, enforcement proceedings, investigations, and complaints. Megan advises clients on power supply planning and negotiation of power supply agreements, regulatory due diligence in connection with the purchase and development of utility-scale generation projects, and land use matters involving regulated utility infrastructure. Megan also represents clients in matters relating to utility operations, rates, infrastructure, and safety, including nuclear power plant decommissioning, the siting and construction of utility infrastructure, and the permitting and construction of railroad crossings.
Megan is well-known for her work regarding wildfire preparedness and wildfire mitigation activities, including utility de-energization programs.
Megan is licensed in California. Before joining BRB Law LLP, Megan was a partner in the San Francisco office of Downey Brand. Megan is a longtime member and former board member of the Conference of California Public Utility Counsel, and a co-founder of Women In Public Utilities. Megan is also President of the Board for Ballet22. She earned her J.D. from the University of San Francisco School of Law and her B.A. from UC Berkeley.
